I Interrupted Two Trades. A Bot Would Have Let Both Run.
I took three trades across three sessions last week. On Monday I interrupted one trade. On Tuesday I let one trade run. On Wednesday I let two trades lose. Same plan on all three days. The only variable was my hands. Trading bot development exists to remove exactly that variable.

On Wednesday June 25, I took two trades that both lost. The first held for 255 minutes before the stop loss triggered. The second was faster. Both closed inside the plan. No revenge. No doubling up. The brain wanted to recover the loss. The plan said stop. The plan won.

On Tuesday: exactly the same. The bot would have entered at the level, waited 163 minutes, and exited at the plan. Identical to what happened. A bot and a disciplined trader produce the same result on a winning day.
On Wednesday: identical again. Two losses. Both inside the risk limit. The bot does not negotiate with the stop loss. It does not calculate how many more trades are needed to recover. It does exactly what the plan says, the same way it did on the winning day.
This is why I say trading bot development should start with the plan, not the code. If you do not have a plan that survives both winning and losing days unchanged, a bot will not help you. It will just lose faster. But if you do have the plan – and if the variable is whether your brain lets the plan work – then automation removes the only variable that costs you money.
The Five Questions Before You Build A Bot
Before you hire a developer or write a single line of code, answer these:
- Is the plan written down? Not in your head. On paper. With entry conditions, exit conditions, stop loss rules, and position sizing logic.
- Would the plan have produced the same action on Monday’s loss, Tuesday’s win, and Wednesday’s two losses? If the plan changes with the outcome, it is not a plan. It is a reaction.
- Does the plan include safety limits? Daily loss limit. Maximum drawdown. Maximum position size. If these are not defined, the bot has no guardrails.
- Does the plan include a journal? Every entry, every exit, every rule check logged. Not optional. The bot should keep better records than the trader.
- Would you let the bot run unsupervised for a full session? If the answer is no, the plan is not ready. The code will expose gaps the brain used to fill with discretion.
